Become a Classic Town
Every community is unique; there is no single characteristic that defines a Classic Town. Classic Towns may be colonial settlements, streetcar suburbs, college towns, or river towns that matured before or immediately after World War II — prior to auto-dependence.
Many Classic Towns are located along regional rail lines or easily accessible to Center City Philadelphia. Others are the location of historic regional institutions like museums or landmarks, or the seats of county government. And some encompass just a portion of a larger municipality while maintaining their own Main Street, history, identity, and culture.
Communities are nominated to be a part of Classic Towns of Greater Philadelphia on a biennial basis by the DVRPC Board and committee members.
