This fall, the Classic Towns are overflowing with flavors thanks to food and drink festivals. From Bordentown City celebrating the very special cranberry to Kennett Square embracing earthy mushrooms, here are a few ways to explore the culinary sides of the Classic Towns.

The 26th Annual Mushroom Festival in Kennett Square, PA – September 9–11
Kennett Square is the mushroom capital of the world. It’s the source of about 65% of all mushrooms consumed in the country. Join mushroom enthusiasts, culinary connoisseurs, and Kennett Square locals at the 26th Annual Mushroom Festival to celebrate the region’s fun(gi) and delicious local mushrooms. The Festival kicks off with a community parade and includes music, farm tours, cooking contests, fun runs, and more. It’s free for children under 12 and $2 for everyone else. Learn more.

The Chester County Restaurant Festival in West Chester, PA – September 18
The Chester County Restaurant Festival
is one of the biggest festivals in Chester County. What’s its secret recipe? Well, food is the focus, but it’s accompanied by live music, local arts, and more. This year’s Festival is scheduled for Sunday, September 18, beginning at noon. Local Chester County food vendors, restaurants, and artisans will take over Gay Street, serving up delicious gourmet, ethnic, and unique favorites. Bands will be performing throughout the day, and officials will host the Chester County Culinary Cook Off, where four local chefs will compete for the honor of Top Chef. The Festival is accessible by bus or car. And you definitely won’t leave hungry. Learn more.

The 32nd Annual Cranberry Festival in Bordentown City, NJ – October 1–2
By the first weekend in October, the cranberries will be ripe for the picking. Help celebrate the harvest with the 32nd Annual Cranberry Festival in Bordentown City. The bounty includes cranberry-inspired cuisine, music, art exhibits, crafters, and even a vintage car show. DVRPC will be there on Saturday to officially welcome Bordentown City to the Classic Towns of Greater Philadelphia. Bordentown City is easily accessible by way of New Jersey Transit’s RiverLine. Prefer to take your car? Parking is available. Learn more.

The 31st Annual Food & Crafts Festival in Media, PA – October 2
Vendors, artists, and foodies alike will line State Street in Media on October 2 to savor the 31st Annual Food & Crafts Festival. Sponsored by the Media Business Authority, over 40 restaurants will be providing samples and more than 60 local artists will be displaying their work. Music and children’s activities are also on the menu. Admission is free. And Media is easily accessible by SEPTA’s Media/Elwyn Regional Rail Line, bus, or car. Learn more.

The 14th Annual Kennett Brewfest – October 8
Although Greater Philadelphia’s version of the storied Octoberfest may be a bit smaller-scale than those in Germany, you can still experience the seasonal spirit when Historic Kennett Square hosts the Kennett Brewfest on October 8 (rain or shine). This event is open to those who are 21 years of age or older only (no children or pets are allowed). Numerous breweries will be in attendance including local favorites like Boxcar, Dock Street Beer, Flying Fish Brewery, Philadelphia Brewing Company, Rumspringa Brewing Company, Troegs Brewing Company, Victory Brewing Company, and Yards Brewing Company. Tickets are required and available here. Proceeds benefit Historic Kennett Square.
