Classic Summer Fun in the Classic Towns
Festival051839.jpg

The streets of the Classic Towns are buzzing with festivals, while over in the parks, people are laying out their blankets and beach chairs for movies and music under the stars.

Things got started last weekend with the State Street Blues Stroll in Media, and continue this weekend with Germantown hosting The West Oak Lane Jazz Festival. It’s one of Greater Philadelphia’s pre-eminent music and cultural events, and features world-class musicians alongside some of our region’s best up-and-coming talent. Other opportunities to spend your summer dancing include the Turks Head Music Festival in West Chester on July 17, and ongoing events like the Sundown Music Series in Haddon Heights, Twilight Concerts between Ardmore and Wayne, plus the Concert Sundaes series in Souderton-Telford. Collingswood’s Knight Park will also be hosting music and movies throughout the summer. They have a full schedule with concerts on Wednesdays and family friendly films on Tuesdays and Thursdays as we move into August.

If arts are up your alley, you’re in luck. The Manayunk Arts Festival is scheduled for June 25-26 along historic Main Street. More than 275 arts and crafts vendors are expected, plus food, fun, live music and more. You can also enjoy the art of the automobile with Car Shows and Cruise Nights in Collingswood, Glassboro, Media, New Hope, and Merchantville among others.

Rather get out and enjoy some fresh and air exercise? Why not take to the trails? There are safe, fun, and family friendly bike paths in Classic Towns like Collingswood, Merchantville, Moorestown, Bristol Borough, and Manayunk. Find your nearest route at phillymap.com. You could also consider Cycle Bucks County on June 25. This charity bike tour begins in New Hope and offers courses for all levels of riders along the Delaware Canal State Park. Later in September, Souderton-Telford will host the Univest Grand Prix - one of seven Union Cycliste Internationale races held in the United States each year. Souderton celebrates the day with kids races and a family festival.

Of course, this is just a small sampling of all the fun and fanfare you’ll find in the Classic Towns this summer. View our Events Calendar for other ideas, or get out there and explore them on your own. You’re sure to find some unexpected places and friendly faces in the Classic Towns.
